Come visit US in OKC

Travel. It is no secret I do love to travel. If Travel was single, and available, I’d ask him to marry me lol. Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Mountains and Seas would be our wedding party. All jokes aside. I do love to explore.

I am in love with all the places I haven’t been, the big cities and small towns, the prairies and mountains, the wild flower fields and the sea creatures that the tides turn up. For the past year I’ve had the opportunity to travel to some amazing places and spend a good chunk of my time in the Windy City- Chicago.

I enjoy it there, I cant wait to go - again and again, and again…. I am always sad to leave. There are a million things to do, beaches to walk barefoot on, food from any part of the world to savor( Yes, even a pretty great Bulgarian restaurant), parks and nature preserves everywhere you look, and yet I come back to OKC. I choose consciously to come back home.

You were thinking I am boasting Chi town here uhm - nope, but I will use it as a example of a great big City with everything you can experience whilst getting stuck in traffic for a great amount of time. Being late for dinner, philharmonic concerts and waiting in long lines for clubs. A great city where it snows in late April and the wind is brutal for six months out of the year….the plane has landed in OKC now.

I was walking around the park, the newest park we have- Scissor-tail (after-all this is our state bird and definitely used as a symbol on most of our state related advertisements and communications.) and felt like I was in the big city again. There’s a stage for summer concerts and wonderful little bridge for lovers to kiss on. My little Winston loves the dog park, where we have already came to know a few pups. Kids play area that is big at heart judging from the smiles and happy squeals coming from that area of the park. My favorite part is the big hill overlooking the whole park and the area surrounding it and the “unexpected US” art installation.

This little city is growing, and the peoples hearts are growing with it. You can see friendly faces and smiling people everywhere you go. No one is in a rush, no one is upset from being late due to outrages traffic. Even if you need to visit the different districts you can hop on a Lime and make it anywhere in 10 min, or you can wait for the colorful and uber clean street cars.

On Thursday nights in the summer you can catch a rooftop art installation, or a local live band and browse some great art- last year we hosted Monet, Degas and a few other well known artist. Not to mention my all time fave glass installations created by Chihuly himself.

If you like wild art, then by all means you should visit Mix Tape Factory Obscura in the Automobile Alley district. It is so creative and fun! Your inner child will rejoice in here, I promise! No judgement passed. Wearing 3D glasses as an adult is an experience on its own.

Restaurants are friendly, locally owned and food choices are abundant- always with a smile on the staffs faces. Lines are short, people strike up conversations with strangers because are we really that unfamiliar… Chances are you have seen some of the people at other local restaurants, bars, parks, art houses. You might have even had to bunker down in a tornado warned spring storm and now can laugh about it. You might just run into each other photographing local attractions and recognize one another from your Instagram posts.

We have the biggest city, with the happiest heart and a very manageable footprint. The time to be young, happy, and a little drunk ( be it on life or alcohol(wisely)) is now and in this city. My OKC
